Rooms

The Archivio Apostolico Vaticano occupies a vast area of the Apostolic Palace and runs along the northwest wing of the Cortile del Belvedere and the Pio IV wing.
The former houses some storerooms and the Restoration Laboratories, while the Pio IV wing overlooks the Vatican Gardens on the west and the Cortile della Biblioteca on the east.

Over the centuries new facilities were added to the so-called Piano Nobile of the Palace containing the Chigi Rooms and the splendid rooms in the Tower of Winds.
These areas include the Bunker built under the Cortile della Pigna of the Vatican Museums to house most of the documentary heritage of the Archives and the Reading Rooms used by researchers from all over the world.
