Activity

The activity of the Archivio Apostolico Vaticano pursues two main goals. One is to protect its documentary heritage and ensure its preservation, while the other is to provide scholars with research tools to enhance access to this treasure trove of Church activity conserved in documents spanning thousands of years.

These two objectives are manifest in the words pronounced by Paul VI in his famous speech of 1963, in which he said that cultivating the archives means providing us and those to come with the history of the transitus Domini in the world: «I nostri brani di carta sono echi e vestigia del passaggio del Signore Gesù nel mondo.
